Reconciliation Lunch – Guest Speaker Rev Bill Simon
Moderated by Cameron Marshall ABC Radio Mid North Coast

Life for Pastor Bill Simon, the first Aboriginal Minister to be ordained in Redfern, has an uncanny twist. He was a member of the Stolen Generation, a metho drinker and a drug pusher, until the crunch came with an amazing conversion.

Born on the Purfleet Mission in Taree, little Billy escaped with his parents to Kendall where they lived for a time, before he was taken away from his family and sent with his brothers to the notorious Kinchela Boys Home.

His recent book “Back on the Block” is the story of his journey.

Tickets $28; Child $20 Bookings are essential and close Friday 23 April

Festival Film “In Search of Beethoven”
Music critic Margaret Pomeranz sums up this film “Brings some of the world’s experts in various fields to tell Beethoven’s story. But this is not just a history: it’s an exploration of the man and his music. It’s fascinating to discover just how revolutionary Beethoven’s music was, and the film gives great insight into the humanism at its heart.

For lovers of classical music it is a must-see, but for people who want to learn about Beethoven I don’t think you could get any better introduction than this film. The music is sublime, the experts knowledgeable, the musicians themselves give a real understanding of the playing of his pieces, the music is dissected so cleverly.”

Wine and cheese will be served following the film

Nick Russoniello (saxophone) and Murilo Tanouye (guitar) are each award-winning musicians in their own right. The unique combination of classical guitar and saxophone allows Duo Histoire to explore a wide variety of musical landscapes in a highly original way. The ensemble's repertoire extends from Argentinian tango and Brazilian bossa nova to the twentieth century classical compositions of French and Spanish masters, including Piazzolla, Ravel, Jobim, Granados among others. Duo Histoire are also proud advocates of new Australian music, regularly programming works by young Australian composers. www.duohistoire.com

Their music is evocative, sensitive and sensual. Their playing pulled at the heartstrings of everyone who heard them. I cannot recommend Duo Histoire highly enough to you.” Mark Walton OAM

African Drumming & Dance Workshop with Kai Fech

We have reluctantly decided to cancel the Drumming Workshops (Friday 30 April and Saturday 1 May) due to the State Government not announcing successful grant applications in time for us to promote the workshops.

We have been advised that decisions on the successful applicants were made in February, announcements and payments were to be made in March, however most recent advice is that the Minister Paul Lynch is not prepared to give any indication when announcements will be made. We apologise for any inconvenience, we are just as disappointed as many of our customers are.

The African Drumming & Dance concert is still on Saturday 1 May at 3pm in Laurieton School of Arts Hall.

William Barton and Ilythian's violinist Sonja Schebeck met when both musicians represented the Sydney Conservatorium in the 2008 Beijing Musicathlon cultural festival. Over the next couple of years, with a great respect for each other's work, William Barton and Ilythian’s composer Chloé Charody saw the potential for collaboration.  Two Australian composers from two highly diverse backgrounds gave both musicians an idea to see what creative energy could be produced from an amalgamation of forces.

Refreshments will follow the concert
